Characteristics of Waspaloy Metal Stamping
Waspaloy is age-hardenable and exhibits excellent strength and corrosion resistance in environments up to 1200°F (650°C) for rotating applications and up to 1600°F (870°C) for less demanding high-temperature environments. Its strength is due to the molybdenum, cobalt, and chromium in the alloy; aluminum and titanium provide age-hardening. Its strength is superior to alloy 718 at temperatures above 1200-1300°F. It can be hot-formed at temperatures above 1900°F and cold-formed when annealed. It is susceptible to work hardening and glazing of the surface during machining and forming. Welding can cause strain age cracking under conditions of heavy restraint and requires re-treating of the part to minimize strain-age cracking.
It offers excellent resistance to corrosion by combustion products, under environments with frequent thermal cycling, and exposure to high temperatures.
